Marie Osmond grew up in a large family as the eighth of nine children in Utah, where the family was deeply involved in music and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Despite her two older brothers being born deaf, her parents continued to expand their family, raising a talented group of siblings, many of whom became famous as The Osmonds. From a young age, Marie was immersed in showbiz, performing with her brothers on “The Andy Williams Show” at just four years old, and eventually co-hosting the variety show “Donny & Marie” with her brother Donny from 1976 to 1979.
Although she was not officially part of The Osmonds, Marie pursued a solo music career and quickly found success with her country-pop hit “Paper Roses.” The single topped the country charts and reached number five on Billboard’s pop list, with other songs like “In My Little Corner of the World” also gaining attention. Later, she and Donny became a popular pop duo, releasing hits such as “Morning Side of the Mountain” and “I’m Leaving It All Up to You,” solidifying their status as a beloved sibling act.
Marie’s life in the spotlight was not without challenges. As the only girl in a family of nine, she faced intense pressures about her appearance, which contributed to struggles with weight and eating disorders. She later experienced postpartum depression and the heartbreak of losing a son to suicide. In her personal life, she navigated two divorces—first from Stephen Craig, then Brian Blosil—before ultimately remarrying Craig in 2011, a union facilitated by their son Stephen.
Despite personal hardships, Marie remained committed to her career and family. She shared memories of her decades-long stage experience, including surviving a house fire that destroyed some of her belongings but spared treasured photographs. She reflected on performing in detailed costumes, including a tight corset for “The King and I” on Broadway, which she described as both challenging and memorable. Her fans responded with excitement and admiration, expressing hope to see her perform again.
Marie and Donny’s bond extended to their long-running Las Vegas residency, which lasted 11 years and became one of the most celebrated sibling collaborations in entertainment. Both expressed sadness when the residency ended in 2019 but were grateful for the opportunity to perform together nightly. Marie noted that their closeness as siblings was a natural part of their chemistry on stage, and Donny praised her talent, emphasizing the special connection they shared with audiences worldwide.
