On March 25, 2008, TMZ reported that Presley had been the target of a horrific cosmetic scam. The so-called doctor responsible was actually a Hollywood grifter and gigolo posing as a miracle worker.

A report by People further revealed that the drug used was a blend of synthetic collagen and tiny solid beads, which was legal in some countries. The price of this treatment fell between $300 and $500 per shot, all to be paid directly to an unlicensed con man.
And Presley was far from alone. Others caught in his web included Shawn Southwick-King, the wife of Larry King, and Diane Richie, the then-wife of Lionel Richie. They even hosted “injection parties” at their homes.

The effects were grotesque. Victims reported lumps, paralysis, and even facial holes. Southwick-King ended up with a lip lump that made it hard to speak and drink.
Because of this, Serrano earned the nickname “Dr. Jiffy Lube,” and in November 2004, federal officers indicted him for drug smuggling, conspiracy, and use of unapproved substances.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, but had been released by the time TMZ’s news story broke. Immigration officials still had pending investigations, however, and shockingly, Richie was named an accomplice in this scam. She pled out and received probation.

Just one day after the story exploded, the actress confirmed everything. Her representatives issued a statement:
“Priscilla Presley was one of many documented victims of Dr. [Daniel] Serrano. An investigation which uncovered his misconduct ultimately lead to his imprisonment. Ms. Presley dealt with this matter years ago and everything is well.”
