Dog The Bounty Hunter’s Step-Son Arrested After Alleged Fatal Shooting Of His 13-Year-Old Son

The step-son of Dog the Bounty Hunter has been arrested and formally charged following the shooting death of his 13-year-old son last summer. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the family’s public profile and the details surrounding the incident.

Gregory Zecca, 39, the son of Francie Chapman and step-son of Duane “Dog” Chapman, is facing serious charges. These include aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm, as well as using a firearm while under the influence.

Zecca’s son, 13-year-old Anthony, died from a single gunshot wound on July 19, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Authorities have stated that the injury was fatal and that emergency responders were unable to save the child.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has said that, if convicted, Zecca could spend the remainder of his life in prison. Officials stressed the seriousness of the charges given the circumstances of the case.

County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk also described the situation as deeply upsetting and called it a tragedy that did not need to happen.

He added: “[Detectives] conducted an exhaustive and thorough investigation, examining every element of what happened through witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, search warrants and more.”

“I commend their hard work and professionalism in uncovering the facts in an incredibly difficult case.”

“This case underscores that devastating tragedy that can result from mixing firearms, alcohol and drugs. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this loss.”

Authorities believe that Zecca had been drinking at a local establishment for several hours before the shooting occurred. Investigators say this activity took place earlier in the day.

They also believe he later purchased additional alcohol and continued drinking while also smoking marijuana at a friend’s house, with his son present during this time.

According to a statement from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe Zecca handled a firearm in the child’s presence. The statement says he practiced drawing the weapon from his waistband and dry firing it.

The statement read: “The firearm had initially been rendered safe by removing the magazine and clearing a live round from the chamber.”

However, police have said “the magazine was reinserted and a round chambered, and Gregory discharged a single shot, fatally striking the child.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they reported smelling alcohol and seeing marijuana. Investigators then obtained two search warrants to access Zecca’s medical records and to perform a blood draw.

Tests conducted from the blood sample showed that Zecca’s blood alcohol level was approximately 0.116 at the time of the shooting. This level is nearly twice the legal limit required to drive a vehicle in the state of Florida.

Sheriff’s officials said the results allowed them to determine that Zecca was impaired by alcohol at the time of the incident.

Dog the Bounty Hunter’s attorney, Joseph Lesniak, later addressed the situation and said the case “remains a devastating family tragedy.”

He added: “We believe Greg loved his son deeply and that this was a tragic accident – one that has left many lives permanently changed, especially Anthony’s and Greg’s.”
