A Cracker Barrel restaurant in East Windsor, Connecticut, faced backlash after a customer spotted decorations resembling nooses hanging from the ceiling. Twitter user Alfonso Robinson posted photos with the caption, “Someone at Cracker Barrel in East Windsor need to explain why there are nooses on the ceiling,” sparking widespread concern.

Cracker Barrel quickly responded, explaining that the “nooses” were actually wrapped cords attached to antique soldering irons on display. The company acknowledged that it was “completely unacceptable” that employees did not notice how the cords resembled nooses before displaying them. The decorations have since been removed.

The noose-like cord had reportedly been part of the restaurant’s décor for 22 years without anyone raising concerns until recently. Activists visited the restaurant and had a “positive” and “constructive” conversation with manager Mark Smith. Keren Prescott, founder of PowerUp-Manchester, appreciated Smith’s openness, noting his comment, “You might notice things that I don’t,” recognizing different perspectives on sensitive issues.

Many Twitter users called on Cracker Barrel to review the décor across all its locations and provide a timeline for such a review.

In a statement to Fox News, Cracker Barrel emphasized its commitment to creating a “welcoming, respectful and inclusive” environment. They reiterated that the offensive décor was an oversight, have removed the item, and expressed gratitude to the guest who brought it to their attention.
