A tragic incident occurred involving an 18-year-old student from Buckinghamshire, UK, who lost her life due to a severe allergic reaction while vacationing with her family in Morocco.
The holiday, meant to celebrate Lily King’s completion of her first year studying economics at college, turned into a nightmare for her parents when she inadvertently ate a piece of carrot at a restaurant in Rabat.
As noted in a JustGiving fundraiser, Lily’s parents, Aicha and Michael, learned about her numerous severe allergies shortly after her birth. These included allergies to fish, seafood, nuts, sesame, dairy, and more, which significantly impacted her ability to enjoy life fully.
Readers who have serious allergies can relate to how disruptive they can be, requiring constant vigilance about things that others often take for granted.
Unfortunately, Lily’s allergies intensified as she aged, with the pressures of life diminishing her body’s capacity to cope with adverse reactions.
According to the previously mentioned JustGiving page, Lily had successfully finished her first year at Exeter University in the UK, but the stress she experienced led to a series of health complications following her first anaphylactic shock.

“The stress that was carried from year 13 had started to run her body down so after her first shock at the beginning of 2024 and a bout in hospital, Lily’s body was in severe recovery mode before her fatal shock,” read the JustGiving.
During a family vacation in Morocco, Lily took a small bite of carrot while enjoying a meal of chicken and fries, which led to another serious reaction.
Lily swiftly took an antihistamine and administered her EpiPen, but the teenager’s health declined swiftly. Her anaphylaxis resulted in a cardio-respiratory arrest. She sadly passed away in the hospital four days afterward.
Mom Aicha reflected on the devastating final moments to the Daily Mail.
“She said, ‘You know Mum, I love you. I’m sorry. Goodbye,’” Aicha said. “And she collapsed in my arms.”
Rest in peace, Lily King.
