Quadruple Amputee Dayton James Webber Accused Of Shooting Passenger While Driving

A man who is a quadruple amputee and has gained attention in the past for his cornhole abilities is now facing serious accusations. He has been accused of fatally shooting a 27-year-old man while driving in Charles County, Maryland.

Dayton James Webber, who is also 27, was taken into custody in Charlottesville, Virginia on Monday (March 23). His arrest came after the death of Bradrick Michael Wells, which took place the night before.

Wells died after suffering a gunshot wound. According to Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson, the shooting happened while Wells was sitting in the front passenger seat of a car with three other people inside.

Investigators say that Webber was behind the wheel at the time. Two other passengers were seated in the back when the incident is believed to have taken place inside the moving vehicle.

What is Dayton James Webber accused of?

Richardson provided more context about what police believe led up to the shooting. According to early findings, Webber and Wells may have been involved in some kind of argument before things escalated.

“I know it escalated rather quickly, but we don’t know what the argument was about, and that’s something, hopefully, we learn,” Richardson said.

After the shooting, Webber is accused of pulling the car over and asking the two passengers in the back to help remove Wells’ body from the vehicle. They reportedly refused to do so.

Police say the passengers then got out of the car, leaving Webber at the scene. According to a statement shared on Facebook, Webber then drove away on his own.

The witnesses later flagged down a passing police officer shortly before 10:30pm on Sunday. Richardson stated that they had seen the entire incident unfold.

“They flagged down an officer who was passing by and gave us information that was relevant to his apprehension,” she said.

After leaving the other passengers behind, Webber is alleged to have continued driving with Wells’ body still inside the car.

Roughly two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall contacted authorities after discovering a body in their front yard, which added another layer to the investigation.

Police were able to trace the vehicle to Charlottesville. Officers later located Webber at a nearby hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a medical issue.

He was arrested at the hospital and is now waiting to be extradited back to Charles County. There, he is expected to face charges including first-degree murder and second-degree murder.

What happened to Dayton James Webber’s limbs?

Webber lost both his arms and legs when he was just 10 months old. This was due to a severe bacterial infection that put his life at risk.

According to ESPN, doctors believed he had only a 3 percent chance of survival if they did not act. To stop the infection from spreading further, they made the decision to amputate all four limbs.

How would Dayton James Webber fire a gun?

Questions have been raised about how Webber could have handled a firearm given his condition. However, Richardson pointed out that he has demonstrated the ability to use various objects despite his physical limitations.

Webber has previously shared videos online that show how he is able to handle and operate items, including firearms, using his body.

Richardson said: “What I would say to answer any questions about how he did this, I would simply refer people to the internet. They can go to his YouTube page. Mr. Webber is a well-documented individual. There’s been many stories written about him and plenty of videos to see.”

His level of coordination has also been seen in his success with cornhole. He became the first quadruple amputee to compete in the American Cornhole League, which brought him national attention.

Following news of his arrest, the American Cornhole League released a statement to KATV News addressing the situation.

“Dayton Webber has not been an active participant with the American Cornhole League since late 2024.”

“The ACL is aware of the reports regarding allegations involving Webber. This is an extremely serious matter and our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells.”

“At this time, this remains an active legal situation. We respect the judicial process and will not comment on specific allegations or details while proceedings are ongoing.”

“We will provide updates if and when it is appropriate to do so, but in the meantime the league will have no further comment.”
