Opry Crowd Delighted by Lainey Wilson’s Festive Take on “Christmas Cookies”
Grand Ole Opry member Lainey Wilson brought plenty of holiday cheer to the Opry stage with a joyful rendition of Christmas Cookies, the beloved seasonal tune made famous by George Strait.
Written by Aaron Barker, “Christmas Cookies” was first recorded by Strait and originally appeared on his 1999 compilation A Country Christmas. He later revisited the song on his 2011 holiday album Christmas Time: 15 Holiday Favorites. Since then, the playful track has become a holiday staple, covered by artists like The Oak Ridge Boys and Drake Milligan—with Wilson proudly adding her name to that list.

In fact, Wilson has had a long-standing love for the song. Back in 2021, she shared a charming visualizer video featuring her version of “Christmas Cookies,” alongside her beloved dog, Hippie Mae. That same year, she delivered a sweet performance of the song during the annual CMA Country Christmas television special.
Fast forward to December 10, 2025, and Wilson brought the tune back once again—this time under the bright lights of the Grand Ole Opry as part of the Opry Country Christmas shows.
Fresh off being named CMA Entertainer of the Year, Wilson dressed perfectly for the festive occasion. She stepped onstage in a bold green ensemble—bell-bottoms included—topped with a cozy darker green jacket and her signature black cowboy hat.

Her upbeat, feel-good performance instantly energized the crowd, turning the Opry house into a holiday celebration. Fans lucky enough to witness it live were treated to a moment that felt like pure Christmas joy.
Lainey Wilson’s Holiday Season Has Been Full of Magic
Wilson’s rendition of “Christmas Cookies” also appears on her holiday EP Peace, Love, and Cowboys (Holiday Edition). The release features three tracks: the holiday version of “Peace, Love, and Cowboys,” “Christmas Cookies,” and a festive take on “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
That final track is especially special—a virtual duet with the late Bing Crosby, blending vocals from his iconic recording with Wilson’s to create a modern holiday twist. An animated music video accompanied the release, adding even more charm to the collaboration.
Wilson also helped usher in the holiday season on a massive stage when she performed during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, just before Santa Claus made his grand entrance. She performed her then-latest No. 1 hit, Somewhere Over Laredo, followed by the holiday version of “Peace, Love, and Cowboys.”

Fans couldn’t stop buzzing afterward, with many calling her performance the perfect kickoff to the Christmas season and the New Year ahead.
From the Opry stage to the parade route, Lainey Wilson has once again proven she knows exactly how to make the holidays shine.
