
Imani Smith, a former child actor best known for playing Young Nala in Broadway’s The Lion King, was found dead on December 21 in Edison, New Jersey. She was 25 years old, according to a statement from Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.
What Authorities Say
Police responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing around 9:18 a.m. Smith was discovered with multiple stab wounds and rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Following an investigation, authorities arrested Jordan D. Jackson-Small, 35, charging him with first-degree murder and multiple weapons-related offenses. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
Remembering Imani
Smith’s family confirmed the suspect was her boyfriend. In a heartfelt message, her aunt wrote, “Imani had her whole life ahead of her. She was vivacious, loving, and fiercely talented.”
From 2011 to 2012, Smith starred as Young Nala on Broadway, showcasing her gift as a true “triple-threat” performer.
