Actor Terry Crews’ wife, Rebecca King-Crews, has revealed the devastating news that she has been fighting Parkinson’s disease for nine years. Initially, her early symptoms were mistaken for anxiety. Now, she aims to raise awareness.
Fans were taken aback when Terry Crews and his wife, Rebecca King-Crews, disclosed some very personal information. During an appearance on the Today show, she shared that she has been silently battling Parkinson’s disease for years without informing the public.
Her diagnosis came in 2015, after doctors initially believed her symptoms were merely stress or anxiety. It took several years before she received the correct diagnosis.
She has chosen to “come forward now” because she recently had a procedure “to assist with the symptoms on one side of [her] body.”
In an interview with Today, alongside her husband, Terry, Rebecca expressed, “I’m seeing improvement. … I’m able to write my name, my dates, I’m able to write with my right hand for the first time in probably three years.”
Rebecca King-Crews diagnosed with Parkinson’s – doctors initially dismissed symptoms as anxiety
Rebecca King-Crews first noticed something was off in 2012. In the beginning, the signs were quite subtle; she experienced numbness in her left foot during workouts. At the same time, her personal trainer observed that her left arm wasn’t swinging as it normally should. One morning, while putting on lip gloss, she discovered that her left arm was trembling.
Concerned about the tremors, she visited the doctor. She suspected she had Parkinson’s because her grandmother had similar tremors, but the doctor brushed it off as anxiety.
“It’s not unusual for us women to have everything labeled as stress,” she shared during her appearance on Today. “I requested referrals, and I received them. It took three years for me to get a diagnosis.”
After three long years of uncertainty, a Parkinson’s specialist finally identified her condition. The tremors have posed challenges in her daily life, making tasks like applying makeup or brushing her teeth difficult.
Currently, Rebecca King-Crews is receiving an innovative treatment that aids her in managing the tremors. This treatment utilizes ultrasound technology.
According to the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, this pioneering treatment is described as “a noninvasive, therapeutic technology with the potential to enhance the quality of life and reduce the cost of care for patients experiencing symptoms related to Parkinson’s disease.”
Terry Crews has labeled his wife as a “superhero”.
According to reports, “this innovative technology directs beams of ultrasonic energy with precision and accuracy at targets deep within the brain, all while preserving the surrounding healthy tissue.”
King-Crews started the treatment a month ago and is already noticing positive changes. This is why she has chosen to publicly share her Parkinson’s diagnosis. During her appearance on the Today show, she expressed that she doesn’t seek “pity,” but aims to raise awareness. She is also optimistic, stating, “we are going to find a cure.”
In an interview with People Magazine, she mentioned, “The only reason I’m going public is that I finally have some encouraging news to share.”
Terry Crews referred to his wife as a “superhero”.
“Seeing her write her name for the first time in three years is overwhelming. Honestly, I’m at a loss for words. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it because I want the best for her; she’s the foundation of our lives, you know? I just want her to succeed,” he shared.
