ST. Former Caddo Parish teacher’s aide accused of hitting teen with autism at school

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Police Department has made an arrest in a concerning incident that reportedly happened recently at Youree Drive Middle School.

SPD officials say Tramikal Davis was working as a teacher’s aide at the school when school board employees identified some alleged behavior they found concerning. The board’s investigation showed Davis had reportedly had a physical interaction with a special education student inside a classroom.

Davis was immediately fired, and the case was brought to the attention of SPD and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

After investigating, SPD arrested Davis, charging him with eight counts of simple battery of the infirm. Police say he hit a 13-year-old student with autism multiple times.

“When the safety of our students is at stake, there is no hesitation and no delay,” said Caddo Parish Superintendent Keith Burton. “The moment concerning behavior was identified, we took immediate action, removed the individual from our schools, and reported the matter to the proper authorities. Protecting students, especially our most vulnerable, is our greatest responsibility.”

School officials say they will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement in this investigation.

KSLA has requested footage from this classroom where this incident allegedly took place. A representative with Caddo Public Schools says the classroom does have cameras, however, the district has been asked by SPD to not release the footage because it may compromise the prosecution of the case.

“The classroom did have cameras in it as Caddo has been proactive in installing cameras prior to the most recent state legislation. The video has been submitted to the Shreveport Police Department for evidence. SPD has asked not to release, as it could result in problems with the prosecution of the case,” the representative said in an email to KSLA.
