Born in 1965 to Sharyn and Walter Gertz, Jami spent her childhood in Glenview, Illinois, with her two brothers, Michael and Scott. Ressler co-founded Ares Management, a private equity firm now valued in the billions, making them one of Hollywood’s richest couples.
Together, they raised three sons, and while the Still Standing star took a slight step back from her acting career to prioritize family, she continued to make a significant impact.

In 2014, following the previous owner of the Atlanta Hawks being compelled to sell the team due to leaked racist emails, Ressler seized the chance. Together with NBA icon Grant Hill, he purchased the franchise – which was then considered one of the lower-tier teams in the NBA – and as a result, Gertz became a part-owner and the public face of a professional basketball team.
“I think it’s safe to say that she leaves a more positive impression on our fan base than any of us in the organization,” Ressler remarked to The Hollywood Reporter about his wife, who thrives on the excitement. “I’m heavily involved in business and player personnel decisions. But Jami steps in for many aspects of the business that I didn’t fully understand or have experience with.”
Now a familiar face courtside, she is frequently spotted cheering passionately, embodying the team’s spirit and actively connecting with the community.
And, as Ressler’s “good luck charm,” Gertz even represented the Hawks during the NBA draft lottery for the 2018, 2019, and 2020 drafts.
