In a TikTok explainer, @psychicleah told viewers that the way a bedroom is arranged could leave someone exposed to harmful forces. That claim depends on whether you believe in spirits and paranormal energy, of course, but it clearly struck a nerve with plenty of people who already take those ideas seriously.
Even without stepping into the supernatural side of things, mirrors have long carried a strange reputation in popular culture. People have grown up hearing warnings about saying names into them, breaking them, or looking into them late at night. Because of that, the idea of a mirror having unsettling energy is already familiar to a lot of people.
“I don’t think I can actually stress this enough to people… Do not have a mirror facing your bed,” she said in one of her warning videos.
“You will have unwanted spirits. You will have all types of spirits in your home and you don’t wanna be the one that I have to come out to [so I can] clear something low vibrational – typically an entity that isn’t particularly nice.”
She also claimed the risk feels even worse if the mirror was bought second-hand or brought in from another home. That is because, according to her, older items may carry lingering energy from previous owners or from events that happened around them before they changed hands.
“Whatever happened within that person’s home – we don’t know if it’s negative – is coming into your home,” added the social media creator.
When it comes to dealing with that problem, her advice is not always to throw the mirror away straight away. Instead, she recommends blocking its surface so it can no longer act as what she sees as an open channel in the room.
“[What] I suggest you do is you cover the mirror. You can keep it there, [but] cover the mirror with a cloth, blanket, whatever you want,” she shared.
People reacting to her TikTok video were quick to say the warning sounded familiar. One viewer agreed and said the same rule had been passed down in their own family for years, showing that this belief is not limited to one creator or one corner of social media.
“My nanny always said to NEVER have a mirror facing your bed!!” they wrote. “If she ever went anywhere to stay for the night she would take it down or cover it up! Also you saying about a second had mirror, I was given one that my dad got from an auction, the bad vibes and distortion that happened when you looked in it were wild! I got rid of it (safely) as soon as I could!”
For some people, that concern is about ghosts or negative energy. For others, it is more about comfort and sleep quality. A mirror reflecting movement, light, or the bed itself can feel unsettling in the dark, even without any paranormal explanation. That may help explain why warnings like this continue to spread so easily online and why so many viewers felt the need to share stories of their own.
So while Leah’s claims depend on belief, the reaction to them shows the subject still has a grip on people’s imagination. A mirror facing the bed may be a design choice for some, but for others, it is something they would rather cover, move, or avoid altogether just to be safe.
