Cause of death revealed for 5-year-old autistic boy who was found dead after wandering from home

CUB RUN, Ky. (WBKO/Gray News) – Officials have announced the preliminary cause of death for a 5-year-old Kentucky boy who was found dead after he wandered away from his home Tuesday morning.

According to the Hart County coroner, 5-year-old Silas Chearer, of Cub Run, drowned.

Officials are awaiting toxicology results to make a final ruling, which takes four to six weeks.

According to Kentucky State Police, Ring footage showed Silas leaving the house on his own at around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Locals were given an emergency alert that the boy was missing around 8:35 a.m.

After a brief search, Silas was found dead at 9:08 a.m.

“When they got to the scene, troopers did everything that we do,” KSP Public Information Officer Katan Parker said. “We did use the drones, so that’s what helped us locate the child. Tragically, the child was found deceased.”

KSP said their investigation is ongoing.

“At this moment, we’re doing all we can to be there for the family in this time of grief and kind of just support them so that we can get through this day,” Parker said.
