BALTIMORE (KTAL/KMSS) – Known for his infectious smile, ‘swagged out’ looks and full personality, the story of John West was brought to social media by his sister documenting his life as an adult with autism.
The journey began being documented in 2024 when his caretaker and woman who identifies herself as his sister, Des, gained custody of John, citing abuse and lack of care from his prior caretakers.
On May 31, 2026 she announced in a heartfelt post on Instagram, the deeply loved social media figure recently passed away from natural causes.
As news of John’s passing spread, the online community responded with an outpouring of love and grief, generating more than 110,000 comments in just three hours.
Across Instagram and TikTok, followers expressed how deeply connected they felt to John, saying he was more than an influencer. To many, he felt like family.

Many of you are new here and may have assumed that John was simply a healthy man with autism, but that wasn’t the case. For years he faced a number of serious health challenges. While his health had improved significantly over the past two years, he had a long history of medical issues.
