ST.Louisa County Sheriff’s Office hosts special needs and autism awareness festival

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office hosted its Project First Responder Special Needs and Autism Awareness Festival on Saturday, June 6.

Part of the festival’s goal is to spread awareness and promote Project First Responder, which assists people with intellectual development disorders in interactions with law enforcement, fire and EMS workers.

The festival also put together emergency sensory backpacks that help de-sensitize people during times of high stress.

“Having resources for parents and caregivers of where they need to go and who they need to talk to and what help can they get if they need help, what resources are available,” said Lt. Chuck Love of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. “That’s what this is all about. We have probably 50 resources here today and we look for more every year that we come.”

Families can visit the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office’s website for more information on how to register.
