ST.Cape Girardeau County FCE meeting highlights autism sew day, scholarships and upcoming conferences

The Cape Girardeau County FCE Council meeting was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the University of Missouri Extension Center. Joann Hahs, Cape Girardeau County FCE president, presided at the meeting. The pledges to the United States and Missouri flags were recited in unison. Members were present from Kage, Lamplighters and Town and Country FCE clubs. No one was present from Oak Ridge FCE Club. Mary Klaproth, member of Town and Country FCE Club, gave the devotion entitled, “The Ten Commandments for a Ling and Peaceful Life”. In the absence of the secretary, Mary Klaproth read the minutes. Jo Dixon, Cape Girardeau County treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report.

Mary Klaproth reported on a successful Spring District Meeting held on April 23 at the University of Missouri Extension Center with 34 members in attendance, which included members from Butler County. Mary Klaproth, MAFCE State president, presented the morning program on “Celebrating 90 Years of FCE”.

Joann Hahs reported on the autism sew day on May 13. Twenty-five weighted blankets, 10 lap pads and five snakes were made and delivered that day.

Joann Hahs had district and Cape Girardeau County scholarship forms available and encouraged FCE members to apply for the scholarships.

Mary Klaproth reported on the ACWW 31st Triennial Conference held in Ottawa, Canada, from April 27 through May 1. Approximately 350 persons attended, including 54 members from the United States.

The three FCE clubs present reported on projects and activities their clubs have been involved with.

Sarah Ross, chairman of scholarship, informed members of the Cape Girardeau County scholarship available. She has a young college student interested in applying for the scholarship, and Sarah is hoping for additional college students to apply.

The nominating committee, consisting of Jo Dixon, Pat Hecht and Linda Thompson, will have names for secretary and treasurer to be presented and voted on at the Sept. 3 council meeting. They will assume office on Jan. 1, 2027.

Phyllis Flanigan, Southeast District director, has requested information from the four Cape Girardeau County FCE clubs with activities and projects the clubs have been involved with. She needs the information for the “Messenger”.

There was discussion of a program on foods for the FCE clubs and possibly the general public. The date selected is Aug. 25 in the morning at the University of Missouri Extension Center. JoAnn Hahs will contact Bethany Bachmann, Extension specialist, regarding the program.

The following upcoming events were announced:

• July 20-23, the National FCE Conference in Erlanger, Kentucky;

• Sept. 22-24, the MAFCE Conference at the Drury Hotel in Columbia and

• Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., Quarterly Council meeting.

The meeting concluded with all reciting the Club Collect.
