MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shining light on autism.
A Memphis comedian hosted a fashion show dedicated to spotlighting children on the spectrum in a very special way.
From shades of blue, different stripes, and even what these children want to be when they grow up.
All of it is on showcase at The One Beautiful Spectrum Fashion Show.
This fashion show is unlike any other fashion show you’ve attended.
These children are the main attraction; their superpower is autism.
Memphis comedian Latoya Tennille is the organizer of the fashion show who has made it to her fifth year of having it in Memphis.
This year she also took it to Little Rock and Nashville, where children with autism in those areas also got a chance to rip the runway.
“I see the impact. I love it. My son is on the spectrum. My daughter is into fashion. It means a lot to me,” Tennille said.
Tennille said through her years of organizing the fashion show, she’s witnessed social interaction miracles among the models that have participated.
She said it’s programs like these that are needed in Memphis to show the beautiful diversity of the spectrum.
“I got babies who normally wouldn’t walk by themselves, and today they walked by themselves,” Tennille said.
Tennille said she plans to take the show to two new cities next year.
